The role of tracheostomy in ICU

چکیده
sensors are the closest available systems to this ideal. For the more commonly used manometric systems, the total measuring chain, consisting of catheter or cannula, tubing, stopcocks and transducer, has a much lower resonant frequency, and damping is therefore vital for increasing accuracy. Optimally damped systems can accurately reproduce frequencies up to 67% of the resonant frequency. An optimally damped manometric transducer system with a resonant frequency of 36 Hz or more should therefore be able to reproduce the shape of the arterial pressure waveform accurately up to a heart rate of 180 beats/min. All manometric pressure monitoring systems introduce a degree of dynamic distortion into the pressure waveform. Some manufacturers produce complete pressure measurement systems where the performance of the entire measurement pathway has been measured dynamically using the GabarithTM test. The accuracy of these systems is guaranteed to lie within tightly defined limits. Fourier analysis of the arterial pressure waveform

Introduction & Objective: Percutaneous Dilatational Tratheostomy (PDT) is an elective procedure increasingly performed at bedside in intensive care unit (ICU). With this technique the complications during transferring to the operating room, duration between one patient candidate for PDT to perform it and cost decreased compared to the standard technique. In our study we compared the duration ...
متن کاملEarly tracheostomy in intensive care trauma patients improves resource utilization: a cohort study and literature review
INTRODUCTION Despite the integral role played by tracheostomy in the management of trauma patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs), its timing remains subject to considerable practice variation. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of early tracheostomy on the duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay, and outcomes in trauma ICU patients. METHODS The followi...

Background and purpose: Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy is widely accepted in many Intensive Care Units (ICU) in the word. The aim of this study was to compare the complications of Modified Percutaneous Dilatational Tracheostomy (MPDT) with or without bronchoscopy. Materials and methods: A randomized clinical trial was performed in 270 ICU patients, candidate for tracheostomy in Babol R...
متن کاملThe impact of time to tracheostomy on mechanical ventilation duration, length of stay, and mortality in intensive care unit patients.
INTRODUCTION This study examined the potential effects of time to tracheostomy on mechanical ventilation duration, intensive care unit (ICU), and hospital length of stay (LOS), and ICU and hospital mortality. METHODS Cohort observational study was conducted in a tertiary care medical-surgical ICU based on a prospectively collected ICU database. We included 531 consecutive patients who were ad...
متن کاملTiming of tracheostomy as a determinant of weaning success in critically ill patients: a retrospective study
INTRODUCTION Tracheostomy is frequently performed in critically ill patients for prolonged intubation. However, the optimal timing of tracheostomy, and its impact on weaning from mechanical ventilation and outcomes in critically ill patients who require mechanical ventilation remain controversial. METHODS The medical records of patients who underwent tracheostomy in the medical intensive care...
متن کاملUse of Glasgow Coma Scale as an Indicator for Early Tracheostomy in Patients with Severe Head Injury
BACKGROUND Early tracheostomy can reduce the time required for mechanical ventilation, the duration of ICU stay, and treatment expenses. Choosing the optimal time for tracheostomy in patients with severe head injury is therefore important. The purpose of this study was to find the optimal time for tracheostomy according to Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). MATERIALS AND METHODS In this prospective st...
